The Khemera Dance Troupe was founded in the spring of 2000 with the aim of preserving Cambodia’s rich dance heritage. As the troupe’s current director, I would travel to meet up with dance masters from the US and Cambodia to learn techniques in an attempt to master not only the dance, but also costuming.
Many people ask why I continue to volunteer my time and fund this group. I’ve always had a passion in preserving this art form. In addition, the group has also become family. In the past 15 years, I have watched many of these shy timid girls (and boys) grow up into successful adults making a name for themselves within the Cambodian community.
Thanks to the individuals who have been a part of this group and an important part of my life.
