Humans of Khmer America

Jimmy Sieng

When I told my paa (father) that I wanted to be a teacher and switched from Physical Therapy, he gave me a subtle grin and told me how he used to be a children’s teacher at the Thailand refugee camp. I’ve noticed there aren’t many Khmer American educators and I hope to be a good representation for them and for the Khmer youth in my community.

I grew up poor and didn’t know a lot about college or anything about careers and had to figure everything out myself. Someday I hope to provide college access and educational services to underrepresented Asian ethnic groups and help be a solution to the achievement/opportunity gap many of these groups face.
