Humans of Khmer America

Roxy Amerie, Model

Khmerican: Introduce yourself.
Roxy: My name is Rasy Phong Chao and I am a freelance model under the name “Roxy Amerie.” I work full-time as a Business Development Agent at Motor Chevrolet. I volunteer regularly at the Children’s Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I am a sister to three siblings.

Khmerican: How did you get into modeling?
Roxy: I got into modeling when I was 17-years-old. I’ve always wanted to model ever since I was a little girl. And I started actively doing photo shoots about 2 years ago.

Khmerican: How would you describe the Khmer community where you live?
Roxy: There isn’t a lot of Cambodians in Anoka, which is about 20 miles north of Minneapolis. But I’ve learned a lot about the culture while living here. I went to middle school and high school, where I was 1 out of 30 Asians in the whole campus. I had lived in Saint Paul prior which had more Southeast Asians.

Khmerican: Who are your role models?
Roxy: I look up to Cambodian American model Marie Madore. She is well known in the industry and I aspire to reach her level of success some day. I just have to keep pushing myself.

Khmerican: What are your long term goal in life?
Roxy: My long term goal is to continue doing what I love most—working as an RN with children. We were given life because we have a purpose here. And mine is to touch people with my kindness. I want to change people’s perspective of life and have them never give up on their dreams.
